Treatment For Alcoholic Liver

The liver is an organ that is vital to the human body. Without a healthy, functioning liver the human body can only last up to 24 hours. It is responsible for detoxification, protein synthesis, and production of biochemicals necessary for digestion.

Diseases like liver fibrosis, a fatty liver or a liver injury can cause acute liver failure that can result in death, yet one disease that is preventable is the alcoholic liver disease. Since the liver is the body’s filtering system, excessive alcohol intake can cause severe damage. In this article, we’ll examine how alcohol affects this vital organ and how a damaged liver can be treated.

Alcoholic liver disease usually occurs after years of excessive drinking. The longer the alcohol use goes on and the more alcohol that is consumed, the greater the likelihood of developing an alcoholic liver. Acute alcoholic hepatitis can result from binge drinking. It may be life-threatening if severe. People who drink excessively can become malnourished because of the empty calories from alcohol, reduced appetite, and poor absorption of nutrients in the intestines.

Factors such as genetics, personal susceptibility to alcohol-induced liver disease, and the toxicity of alcohol (ethanol) to the liver all impact the chances of developing liver disease. Women may be more susceptible than men, and it is not necessary to get drunk for the disease to develop.

The symptoms of liver disease due to alcohol can vary according to the individual. Changes start in the liver as inflammation (hepatitis) and lead to fatty liver and cirrhosis. Cirrhosis is the final phase of alcoholic liver disease.

Symptoms may not be present until the disease is advanced, and may include abdominal pain and tenderness, dry mouth and excessive thirst, fatigue, fever, jaundice, loss of appetite, mental confusion and nausea. Some patients also exhibit abnormally dark or light skin, dark bowel movements, breast development in males, redness on feet or hands and lethargic movement. Symptoms vary based on the severity of the disease and usually worsens after a period of heavy drinking.

Things to remember:

  • Studies have shown that moderate consumption of alcohol has healthy benefits to the body.
  • The symptoms of liver disease due to alcohol can vary according to the individual.
  • Early recognition is important since an alcoholic fatty liver responds to alcohol withdrawal.

Early recognition is important since an alcoholic fatty liver responds to alcohol withdrawal and a nutritious diet. Patients with severe alcoholic hepatitis should be admitted to hospital and complications of liver failure treated appropriately. These patients usually have significant metabolic abnormalities that have to be corrected.

Hyperglycemia is a common manifestation of chronic liver disease because of insulin resistance. Cirrhosis is an irreversible process, and therapy is directed at the complications of liver failure and portal hypertension. An organ transplant is a treatment option for patients with end-stage alcoholic cirrhosis. However, liver transplantation is a reasonable option in patients with alcoholic liver disease providing there is prolonged abstinence (at least six months), good social supports and no evidence of severe damage to other organs due to alcoholism.

It’s extremely important to recognize that the first step in treatment is giving up alcohol. As with any addiction, medical and social support are critical. Patients suffering from an alcoholic liver are encouraged to join support groups and take medication that minimizes the side effects of alcohol withdrawal. Abstinence from alcohol combined with a nutritious diet has proven to greatly improve the overall health of patients.

Do You Suffer from Bulimia? Maybe You Need Treatment

If you are asking this question, then you are on your first step to a successful bulimia treatment option. Bulimia is one of the most undiagnosed conditions because of the fact that sufferers will not admit the problem to anyone, including themselves. Allowing yourself to remain in denial gives your condition the freedom to control your life. It may even intensify to the point of death. You must come to terms with your condition before it reaches the fatal stage; in fact, when you seek bulimia treatment, you are allowing yourself the quickest possible recovery.

First, you must learn whether or not you fit the medical definition of a bulimic. What are the symptoms that will prove to you that you definitely have this illness? The principal indication of this disease is an unwholesome fixation on your weight. Do you reject your friends’ opinions that you’re not overweight… and perhaps that you might be a little too skinny? Are you constantly disgusted by your own shape and weight? Most bulimics are neurotic when it comes to their caloric intake; some even write it down on a trusty pad that they don’t leave home without.

You also tend to binge and binge on a very large volume of food in one sitting. If you go for days without eating, you usually end up binging. During this time, you feel as if you have no more control over the amount or type of food you consume. Then you binge and feel ashamed of yourself, so you want to rid yourself of the food you just ate. A common classification of bulimics includes purgers. People who purge will do anything to ensure that their bodies don’t actually ingest the food they eat, including inducing vomiting, swallowing all sorts of enemas and diuretics, and abusing laxatives. People with non-purging type of bulimia nervosa usually fast or exercise excessively after a large meal, exaggerating the calories they need to expend per gram of food they have eaten.

You definitely have bulimia if you enter this cycle every couple of months, weeks, or even days. Depression over your weight or over the amount of food you have taken is also common. Have you ever forbade yourself from attending an important occasion simply because you know there will be food at that event?

Bulimics often endure the pain and humiliation of many other medical difficulties as well. There are many disturbing symptoms of bulimia. If you experience any of the following problems, you need to consult a physician at once: a multitude of mouth sores; electrolyte imbalance and dehydration (the result of vomiting so often); peptic ulcers; unending rounds of constipation and diarrhea; continuous burping followed by a pungent aftertaste or chronic gastric reflux; and tender swelling of the throat tissue. So once you know, seek bulimia treatment asap.

Hollywood may not be so perfect

In the past twenty years average people’s obsessions with celebrities have grown to an all time high. The Media has constantly being watched. Lindsay Lohan secretly enlisted in LosAngeles drug rehab but yet was on the front page of tabloid covers. In LosAngeles Alcohol rehab and drug rehab have become a safe haven for celebrities who are battling addiction. It is becoming a huge problem in Hollywood. Even young stars, which are not legal to drink, have been fighting these addiction issues. Since stars are under constant scrutiny, everyone knows when someone is having personal issues. Life is not easy and not always fun in Hollywood.
Celebrities massive work load could be one reason they are so stressed. The amount of jobs an actress or actor takes on is growing much bigger. Especially in the past two years, we have seen a trend for dual talents. An actor is also a singer and a singer also hosts a TV show. This sounds like a great thing, but actually places a lot of pressure on the individual. Balancing music tours, fan signings, recording a movie, and staying in shape all while living their life as well can get too hard. Often, these stars fall back on drugs and alcohol to help them cope with the pressures of stardom.
Another reason stars are so prone to addiction is their “glorified” social parties. The stars are expected to be talented at work and have a social life. A young actress or singer is nothing if she can’t also have a party life. However, big parties in Hollywood can be a little to extreme for some to handle. Its rare that there isn’t an open club or house party for a celeb to attend, and it is easy for him or her to begin walking a dangerous path. Those attending these parties can find themselves doing illegal drugs at a party, or drinking way too much. If this turns into a common routine, a star may land them in rehab instead of in the spotlight.
Another addiction that doesn’t get as much attention is the weight addiction. Even men in Hollywood are under extreme pressure to look their best at all times. Some don’t have the time to exercise as much as they need to while working, so they find other ways to stay thin. Women in Hollywood especially are prone to eating disorders or over-exercising. Being in the spotlight 24/7 can evoke a lot of pressure to be excessively thin. There are rehab centers for celebrities who suffer from eating disorders and issues with body image as well.
Over the years, the entertainment business has grown tremendously. It impacts everyone in so many ways. The media can be seen everywhere. Some of the most impacted are those at the core, the entertainers themselves. Stars have much more work than they used to. They are also expected to go out and party and are thrown into some very serious situations. The constant attention they receive leaves them with expectations of being perfect. All of this causes the growing issues with addictions in Hollywood.

Useful suggestions On Alcohol And Drug Treatment

Alcohol and drug treatment has evolved through the ages. Back in the dark ages, little or nothing was known about treating addiction. In fact, addiction was perceived as demonic. In other words, the patient is seen as demonized or possessed by demons. The only treatment in those days was being burned at stake. What a terrible way to deal with a trouble-free matter! It was truly a dark age!

A little progress was made in the later century. Instead of seeing the patients as being possessed by demons, they were seen as being mad! It’s pretty unbelievable. The Alcohol and drug treatment back then include straight jackets, padded rooms, and electric shocks. Our modern perception of addiction and appropriate alcohol and drug treatment literally dates back to the 12 step program. This is a program started by the Alcoholics Anonymous. It is not until then that we start to see that addiction is neither demonic nor insanity. Yes, it is a hitch but it is never solved by those terrible means in the past. There are now better approaches to dealing with addiction.

In order to assist people with addiction, numerous alcohol and drug treatment centers were established. But most of these centers only have the 12 step model as treatment option. The patient is handed a book and told to seek for the nearest Alcoholics Anonymous centers. While there he will be told to attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Proponents of this method claim that it is pretty beneficial in helping the addict get off the hitch.

We won’t like to delve into the pros and cons at this stage. But it suffices us to know that it is the starting point of what we now as modern alcohol and drug treatment. One thing that is attractive about the 12 step program is that it is free. In other words, you don’t have to pay any high fee before acquiring treatment. It is not hard to find AA center nearby that you can attend. You can hop online and get it or check your phone book or yellow pages. Contact them and see what they can do to assist you get off addiction.

The 12 step program however is not the only way to get off drug and alcohol addiction. There are numerous methods out there that you can use. So, I counsel you to ask if the center you want to check into has other services apart from the 12 step program. It is fine to check into one that has more than the 12 step program.

Finally, it is prudent that you try out as numerous alcohol and drug treatment options as likely. This is the only way you can know the right and perfect one for you.

helpful info On Alcohol Treatments

This is a must read if you or a loved one is grappling with alcoholism. Contrary to what you may be thinking, there is a commendable way to deal with the problem of alcohol addiction. This article is written for people who are really serious, people who want to stop drinking alcohol.

There is no easy way to tell a regular drinker from someone who only drinks occasionally, especially once both parties are drunk, because they look the same. Basing the decision on their confessions might not be a good idea too. To really know, you might have to watch them both closely over a period of time. An alcohol treatment center might provide such an opportunity. The treatment for alcoholism cannot be taken with levity. Quitting has got to be sudden, abrupt and total. Anything short of this can only result in a relapse that could send you back to rehab, ruining all the hard work they did the first time. Certainly this is not something you want to be looking forward to.

‘Rehab’ is the short term for ‘Rehabilitation Center.’ It is where professional people help people with bad habits break their addictions. Drugs and alcohol take precedence in place like the United States. You will find a lot more people in there with related problems. If you have a friend or relative with a liquor problem, you should nip it in the bud. You might not have seen it from the start, but the moment you do, you need to find a way to get that person to an alcohol treatment center. Do that, or lose them forever to the bottle. Various rehab centers may have various processes for carrying out their functions. They all understand that their patients may act strange, so they all have processes in place for emergency communication. But for the most part, they just stick to protocol, and you gradually heal.

A woman who loves and understands you is better than a glass of liquor any day. Get drunk with her love and you might be saved from the deprecating experience of staring at the cold walls on the inside of a room in an alcohol treatment center. Some inmates in an alcohol treatment center sneak drinks and bottles into rehab. You know someone like this is not serious about quitting. But also, you should know that he really is no longer in control of his actions or his decisions. Liquor is.

Alcoholism is dipsomania. Once you get caught in it, you are preoccupied toward the consumption of the beverage because you can’t bring yourself to stop. An alcohol treatment center might be a big help, but you are really the only person who can save yourself.

Jobs are becoming scarce and on requiring drug tests so even those who smoke weed will be forced to quit. But the problem is how, most people have been smoking weed since high school or maybe even earlier. They are now faced with the problem How to Stop Smoking Weed but to stop smoking weed is harder than it sounds. One tip I used to stop smoking weed was to write down the things that I didn’t like when I was under the influence. The list would look something like this

STOP SMOKING WEED
1. My appetite changed so I was only able to eat a full meal after smoking marijuana.
2. After smoking I would always lose momentum of my day and become very lazy
3. I would also sleep all the time
4. Etc.

So now every time that I had a craving to smoke I would just remember my list and that would stray me away from the tempting aroma that many of us are accustomed to. Another reason to stop smoking weed may be because of the medical problem that may occur, such as memory loss. Studies show that long time weed smokers of 20 years orlonger performed significantly less well then people who have smoked for a short amount of time or no time at all. This is another reason to Smoking Weed. What good is a memory if u can’t remember yesterday?

• Alcoholic’s Anonymous has only a 5% retention rate – that’s according to their own statistics!
• 45% of AA attendants never return after their first meeting – and 95% don’t make it past their first year!

Learn About Coping With Major Nicotine Withdrawal Symptoms

If you have just give up smoking and suffer from nicotine withdrawal, you know that the discomfort and stress can be nearly unbearable at times. I smoked for most of my adult life, and probably tried (and failed) to quit smoking over 30 separate times. Each time I would only last a few days to a week before I went back to cigarettes with my tail tucked between my legs. Read on for some of the ways I was finally able to beat severe nicotine withdrawal symptoms and quit for good last summer.

What Were My Most Severe Nicotine Withdrawal Symptoms?

severe nicotine withdrawal symptoms will often mimic a severe cold or the flu. When I would go for a whole morning or afternoon without a smoke or try to stop entirely I would start to feel some or all of the following:

Irritability
Insomnia
Fatigue
Inability to Concentrate
Headache
Cough
Tightness in the chest

It felt terrible, and the nagging would begin in the back of my mind and grow louder and louder, “all you need is one cigarette and all of this will go away…”

Sound Familiar?

I finally got fed up with my slowly declining health and energy levels. As time went on I had stopped doing things I love, like going to the gym and working out, and instead would make excuses because I felt too tired all the time. Last year, I decided that it was time to quit for good. I made the final decision that I was going to eliminate tobacco no matter what. I think having a clear and focused commitment was absolutely crucial to being able to get over my addiction, but I was also able to find some help in the form of a fantastic product to quit smoking and some healthy changes to my lifestyle.

During the first few weeks, I did experience the same old severe nicotine withdrawal symptoms – but they were easier to manage this time. I was making healthier choices with my diet, eating more fruits and vegetables. I was also getting a little bit of exercise every day to help my lungs start to heal. Most importantly, I was getting help from the totally natural smoking cessation method, which focuses on reducing cigarette cravings, strengthening the immune system and boosting the metabolism to give me more energy.

At this point I have been smoke free for over six months and it feels so great! If you need help quitting I can’t emphasize enough how much it helps to use a natural supplement to get rid of your severe nicotine withdrawal symptoms.

Effective Guide On Alcohol Treatment Centers

It is heart breaking to know that a lot of individuals all over the country have actually been to an alcohol treatment centers. This makes one mull over how a lot of Americans have hitches and then turn to liquor for support. But you know what, it should not be. You may drink but excess is one thing you must avoid by all means. Though, this is easier said than done. It is frequently very easy to become addicted to booze but it is very challenging to quit once you are stuck. It is a habit that many individuals have found very challenging.

The greatest answer to your problem is an alcohol treatment center. You don’t have to search far and wide before finding one very close to where you reside. Find out if they have the basic hospice to help overcome your addiction problem. Enroll there if you are contented. Though, you must not expect to be cured of the problem within days. Remember, you did not get into the problem overnight. So, never expect answer to come overnight. But it is sure to come if you continue. The gain far outweighs the cost. You will come out a different person that you, your loved one and the larger society will be proud of.

It is better to enroll willingly in an alcohol treatment center than being compelled into the sickbay by the government. You should not look at these centers as prisons. On the contrary, these centers exist to help you become what you want to be. It is very prudent if you have not been able to overcome your alcohol problem on your own.

Along with, if you have a loved one experiencing the problem of addiction, it is very basic to get him or her into a reputable center. But you must do this with love. Don’t give him or her the impression that he or she is heading to a prison from the way you present the issue. Let the addict see the need for professional help. When he or she finally agrees to enter into a center, it is not advisable for all family members to give up on him or her. Pay stable visit to monitor his improvement and keep encouraging him or her that it will soon be over.

Once you have been through alcohol treatment center, it is very advisable for you to avoid anything that can lure you into drinking again. In other words, avoid the friends and gathering that can lead you to taking alcohol. This is the only and greatest way of dealing with alcohol addiction.

Stop Smoking with Acupuncture

For starters, although acupuncture has been around for centuries, it is still a relatively new therapy in the United States that has been shown to help individuals with their smoking goals. Even though there is no scientific basis for the process that acupuncture helps smokers quit, research by private individuals indicates that acupuncture can have a profound affect on those that want to quit smoking fast.

Why Acupuncture Works

One theory about why acupuncture works on the body is that the affects of acupuncture work in the same way that nicotine works on the brain. By stimulating those same neurotransmitters and by stimulating the production of acetylcholine, one is able to produce the same psychosomatic effects on the brain as if they were smoking. There are many benefits to trying acupuncture.

Belief in Acupuncture

The process of acupuncture really comes down to individual belief and confidence. Whether or not you currently believe in acupuncture may not be as important to you as your desire to quit smoking. Your need to quit the cigarette habit may be big enough to give this method a try.
