Best Road Map to Mesothelioma Causes In San Diego And Other Communities

During the past years San Diego was amongst the highest ranked in cancer-related deaths related to asbestos exposure known as mesothelioma. Being a hub of activity for the United States Navy, a lot of people where unknowingly exposed to asbestos fibres at naval bases and ship repair facilities.

Asbestos is made up of microscopic fibers that may become airborne when asbestos containing materials and products are damaged or disturbed.

Most asbestos fibers are invisible to the unaided human eye because their size. When asbestos fibers get into the air they may be inhaled into the lungs or swallowed into he digestive system where they can cause significant health problems. The word “asbestos” is derived from a Greek adjective meaning inextinguishable.

There are three most commonly used types of asbestos: white, brown, and blue. Brown and blue asbestos are most commonly associated with mesothelioma.

Hundreds of people died in the last 25 years as a result of this disease . In the last 20 years alone, over 400 people in San Diego were diagnosed with mesothelioma. Other places such as southern California had workers and their families affected with this disease.

Mesothelioma cancer comes from inhaling or digesting asbestos dust particles. Mesothelioma is a life-threatening disease and should not be left untreated. Most cases of mesothelioma begin in the pleura or peritoneum.

Mesothelioma cancer occurs in the thin layer of tissue that covers your internal organs (mesothelium). The mesothelium is a membrane that covers and protects most of the internal organs of the body. It is composed of two layers of cells: One layer immediately surrounds the organ; the other forms a sac around it.

Other mesothelioma deaths cases are found in San Bernardino, Los Angeles, Ventura and the Orange County where each community has its share of the disease.

375 cases of mesothelioma where reported in Los Angelis between 2001 and early 2006 while the Orange County reported 150 cases in the same period. San Diego County reported 152 cases. Close to half the cases in all of California during those five years have been discovered in Southern California.

Attorneys who have represented cancerous asbestos fibres mesothelioma patients for more than 25 years, are specialists in obtaining substantial settlements in asbestos lawsuits. Attorneys at Clapper Patti Schweizer & Masonhave obtained millions in compensation for residents with asbestos exposure and mesothelioma.

Did You Know?
During the 20th century, some 30 million tons of asbestos were used in industrial sites, homes, schools, shipyards and commercial buildings in the U.S.

It’s hard to put into words the pain and suffering that so many of our visitors have endured over the years from being diagnosed with mesothelioma cancer.

High Level Guide To Malignancy Fighting Immune System Supplements

You or a loved one has previously noticed some of the disconcerting symptoms of cancer and been diagnosed with a malignancy.

Immune system supplements, both natural and artificial, are an essential part of fighting that cancer or doing a prevention program. To learn more about the most prevalent methods and products, keep reading.

Biologic Response Modifiers (BRMs)

Biologic response modifiers are substances that alter the response of specific elements of the immune system to enhance, restore, or direct the immune defenses of the body. By definition, biologic response modifiers include several fields of research - immunotherapies, vaccines, and immune-system-enhancing agents. These types of therapies are often called biologic therapies.

The most commonly used type of biologic response modifiers is interferon. Interferon is a protein molecule that can help fight off certain diseases, like cancer. However, for treatment purposes, synthetic interferon is created in a lab and then administered to the patient to supplement the immune system. Interferon won’t cure cancer, but it will improve life spans and help control the disease.

Vitamins

There are mountains of studies that prove certain foods and vitamins are critical immune system supplements and help to restore the body after cancer while also preventing it.

The most expansive and possibly the most controversial studies were conducted by Linus Pauling. One of Pauling’s more interesting works compared the longevity and success rates of individuals with similar types of cancer and who were of similar ages.

Out of these patients, Pauling put a hundred of them on a daily program of high Vitamin C doses. The remainder received no Vitamin C. In the end, the participants consuming large amounts of Vitamin C lived significantly longer than the untreated patients.

One of the biggest advantages behind Vitamin C therapy is that there are few side effects or downsides. Vitamin C is not toxic, it’s water-soluble and excesses are simply eliminated from the body. It’s one of the immune system supplements that has many benefits but few drawbacks.

Diet and Nutrition

Diet alone is rarely claimed to be a cure for cancer. However, there is little doubt that diet and nutrition can play a major role in aiding the body’s healing process, strengthening the immune system and in dealing with the effects of cancer and its treatment.

All organic diets are often touted as the ideal way to deliver nutrition-based immune system supplements while simultaneously cutting out chemicals and other carcinogens. An organic diet is one free from chemical additives, irradiated food and pesticides.

The reasoning behind this theory is that eliminating anything that stresses the body will enable the immune system to spend more of its energy on fighting cancer while simultaneously providing immune system supplements.

Acquiring A Comprehension Of The Stage 4 Neuroblastoma Affliction In Kids

At some basic level, we all have an underlying fear of facing cancer in any form, from the identification of abnormal symptoms to the dreaded diagnosis of cancer, and then dealing with cancer treatments. Well, imagine being a mere child and facing the prospect of that same set of steps with Neuroblastoma.

Neuroblastoma stage 4 is a cancer that has spread to the body’s other areas - such as the bones, lymph nodes, bone marrow, liver, skin or potentially other vital organs.

If your child has been diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma, keep reading for more information about the disease, survival rates, risk factors, and common treatments.

A Neuroblastoma Overview

Approximately 650 cases of neuroblastoma are diagnosed every year in the U.S. It’s the third most common kind of cancer in children and the most frequent form in infants. Approximately 90 percent of all cases of neuroblastoma are diagnosed in children aged 6 and under.

About 30% of all neuroblastoma cases begin in the adrenal glands, another 30% start in the ganglia of the abdomen’s sympathetic nervous system, and the majority of the remainder begin in the neck’s sympathetic ganglia, chest or pelvis.

Rates for Five-Year Survival

With most cases of neuroblastoma, the five year survival rate for children under the age of 1 is an impressive 83%. For kids between 1 and 4, it’s 55% and for children 5 and older, only 40%.

However, for children diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma, that survival rate drops to 50-80% for children under the age of one and to 15% for older children.

Treatments Used for Stage 4 of Neuroblastoma

Children who are diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma are considered high risk. They are typically subjected to intensive, high-dosage chemotherapy accompanied by surgery and stem cell transplantations. Typically though, surgery is the first step unless the neuroblastoma has spread too far.

In most cases, treatment involves a combination of medications. The main drugs used to treat children with neuroblastoma are cisplatin, vincristine, cyclophosphamide, etoposide and topotecan. These drugs produce a positive response in two thirds of children.

In certain cases, particularly when the cancer has spread too far to be completely removed by surgery - as is the case with the fourth stage of neuroblastoma - chemotherapy is the primary treatment.

Bone Marrow and Blood Stem Cell Transplants

High-intensity chemotherapy can destroy bone marrow completely. Without marrow, new blood cells won’t develop. To solve this problem, children with neuroblastoma are often treated with high-intensity chemotherapy and then must undergo a bone marrow transplantation or peripheral blood stem cell transplantation.

Radiation Therapy

Typically, radiation treatments are used as a final attempt to kill any remaining neuroblastoma stage 4 cells after surgery on an affected area.

However, in many instances of late-stage and advanced neuroblastoma, it’s rarely used unless it’s implemented as a pain-management tool or in conjunction with chemotherapy.

Leading Types Of Cancer - Symptoms Of Ovarian Cancer

Study around and search for current health articles, cancer has become one of the most popular topics. The names of different types of cancer include ovarian cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer, skin cancer and so on. For women, it is better to equip themselves with signs of ovarian cancer knowledge. For man, especially those who smokes should learn more about lung cancer. Cancer as a modern days deadly disease has causes turmoil in the human race. Medical researchers consider cancer to be a “metabolic disease”. Metabolic diseases are those diseases that affect the metabolism rate of our body. Thus, cancer as a disease affects the human cells in the body.

Cells as in biology clause are microscopic living units in the body, which build all living organs in the body. Meaning, at any given time or state, the human body is made up of a billion cells that structure the human organs.

The accepted cells divide and bring to maturity to a certain level and then they die after a little time. However, cancer is a strange and unusual cells crop up in the man body. Unlike the accepted cells which follow the accepted rate of growth and division, cancer cells grow and spread in the man body at an alerting and fast rate. The cancer cells keep on dividing and continue growing on. As a result, cancer cells start getting clumped together, which in turn creates a tumor. Cancer is a deadly disease that affects the man cells.

It is believed that cancer actually is a stage in the body when the cells turn, “trophoblastic”. Trophoblastic is a situation in the human body, when the cells in the human body tend to advance at a faster rate than the normal. This stage can be illustrated for example, when a human body gets an external or internal injury, then the cells of the human body start the healing process, by starting to advance. In case, the cells are in a trophoblastic stage, then although the cells start healing, but they don’t stop advanceing, thereby causing a lump. This in medical term is also called as a tumor. This lump goes numb even if the body controls the growth of the trophoblastic cells and proves to be highly injurious if the cells keep increasing. The removal of such tumor would rather lead to the uncontrolled growth of those trophoblastic cells, because of more effected sited due to the operation, and thus arise in increasing the cancer.

There are few cares for cancer. The known medical cares for cancer today are radiation therapy and chemotherapy. Sadly to say that neither radiation therapy is useful due to the reason it causes more wounded parts and thus increases the cancer cells, nor chemotherapy is useful because it adversely effects the immune system of the body and the body holds no-more competence of natural healing.

Skin Cancers

Skin Cancer is one of the most common skin cancer types. Approximately one in six people will develop skin cancer. Medical experts unanimously agree that overexposure to sunlight is the main culprit. Other factors include sunburn with blistering especially during childhood, skin creams that contain tar if used over a prolonged period, repeated X-rays, exposure to coal and arsenic, radiation, chemotherapy and family history. Freckles with fair skin that doesn’t tan very easily can also put one at risk.

Most skin cancer types grow slowly. It is imperative you inspect your body on a regular basis for anything unusual. Stand in front of a full length mirror and with a hand held mirror check out every inch of your skin. Have someone check the top of your head as well. You should know your body in detail, so that when something different rears its ugly head, you notice it immediately!

Watch for any unusual spots. Look for lesions, moles or spots that are asymmetrical in shape. Observe for any colored spot that grows bigger or develops an uneven color or irregular, ragged edge. Look for any nodules or patches that are red and scaly, as this can be a squamous cell carcinoma which can metastasize (spread). Other symptoms to look for are changes in the surface of a mole. If you notice the mole is raised above the skin and has a rough surface, is scaly, oozing, bleeding or there is development of bumps on any mole, seek medical attention. In other words anything that develops that wasn’t on your body before should be investigated by your physician.

Skin cancer has a high cure rate if caught early. Excision of the lesion is the most common treatment. Self examination is the key to early detection with a regular visit to your doctor for check ups.

The best methods to avoid skin cancer types are to avoid the sun, especially during the hottest part of the day from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Wear a sunscreen if you are out doors with an SPF of at least 15 or more, applied thirty minutes before going into the sun. Put the sunscreen everywhere the suns rays will hit you. Don’t forget your ears and men don’t forget any bald areas on top of your head. If you have to be out in the sun, use a wide brimmed hat or cap. Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun. Choose sunglasses that protect against both UVA and UVB rays. Sunglasses can help prevent cataracts as well. Wear long sleeve shirts and pants if it is not sweltering hot, to better protect your body. Don’t use tanning salons as they can damage your skin just like the sun.

Of course there is the controversy that you need some sun in order NOT to be vitamin D deficient. Ask your doctor to prescribe a good vitamin D supplement. Your doctor can advise the proper dose to take. I know it is hard at times to completely avoid the sun. A few minutes of sun occasionally with a good sun screen, should not be too harmful, as long as you watch the time of day and check your body on a regular basis. Also too much sun can contribute to wrinkles. Avoidance is best, but not always possible. Hence, just be very careful and check, check, check your body regularly (monthly if possible). Go to your doctor immediately when you notice any irregularities. Keep healthy!

Somebody Has Learned From Your Hemorrhoids Mistakes!

Life sure is very hard today. It’s hard to sit down, standing up. Why, it’s even harder to do almost anything and do you know the reason why? No, it’s not the problem of financial decline. It’s not about the problem of economic distress but the problems of health especially when you’re talking about swollen veins in your rear end or hemorrhoids. Is this right or is this right? For sure, majority of the people who will come across this are those who have hemorrhoids problems and it’s because they are frantically looking for some natural remedies for hemorrhoids, right or correct? And out of 9 of those people, all of them got hemorrhoids because of their own transgressions against themselves and this is what this article is all about. So, go ahead, you can either stand up, sit down, crawl around, kneel or whatever while reading this, whichever is most comfortable to you but mind you, it’s really hard to do all those things when you have piles.

But, before anything else, there is somebody out there who will say “Thank God you’re got hemorrhoids or else, we will never have any idea how to prevent it!” Sounds sarcastic but the point is, people learn from other’s mistakes but on the sunny side of everything, by your own mistakes, you will learn to live a vivacious, healthy and worry-free life from all of those health predicaments once you get to know how you got them, how to avoid them, how to eradicate them and what to do in order to minimize, if not totally erase the problem.

So, what did you do why you have hemorrhoids? First and foremost, you eat them. That’s right, you eat hemorrhoids, symbolically, that’s why you got hemorrhoids. Foods that can promote hemorrhoids are what is being discussed around here and what are these foods? Refined and processed foods are some foods that can promote constipation, therefore, can promote hemorrhoids. The digestive system was not designed to handle the amount of food paste from the white sugar, white flour, white rice, pasta, and hydrogenated fats. Processed foods like bratwurst, sausages, meat loaf, bacon can also encourage swollen veins in your rear end. All the white refined products turn into life-threatening paste and sugar that destroy the vitamins and minerals. These foods also contribute to diseases such as colon cancer, varicose veins & appendicitis, aside from hemorrhoids. This white rice, for instance, will turn to paste and would trap the toxins that are supposedly to be eradicated from the body. You put pressure on your rear end when you move your bowel thus, stretching those anal or rectal veins which will tear them apart. And because you’re very busy with your daily tasks and responsibilities, you go all through the day with minimal amount of water or no water at all and don’t tell anyone that you’re not doing this. And to top it all, you live a very idle lifestyle. You become the couch potato, the jiggling gummy bear jelly, the blob or the fat carrier. These are some of the factors that encourage hemorrhoids and if you don’t want to go under the knife when things get out of hand, you better find a natural remedy for hemorrhoids, not tomorrow, not today, but right now.

Or maybe you don’t feel like moving an inch and you might say that this could just be a natural part of your everyday life, having hemorrhoids and all but have you stop and think what do hemorrhoids look like? Maybe if you will see the actual chronic cases of hemorrhoids, you might change your mind and start to frantically search the Internet through your browser hoping to find the right solution. So, okay, you might want the cure or not but here are some few pointers that you need in order to prevent or help get rid of hemorrhoids. Do drink a lot of water everyday, 8 glasses is the minimum. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and other foods rich in fiber or natural ones. Go for more of these alkaline foods rather than acidic ones like meat, white foods, processed foods, junk foods and fast foods. Exercise can also help and even just an 8-minute Taebo workout can help. To end, the only person that can help you is yourself and the proper food that you eat and always bear in mind, if you do need a good remedy, go for the natural.

Customary Consequences Springing Out Of Chemotherapy Treatments

When observing personal symptoms that may conceivably lead to a diagnosis of cancer, it is difficult to keep one’s mind from imagining the worst of scenarios. And it doesn’t help that some of the treatments associated with different forms of cancer have their own sets of risks and consequences. Chemotherapy is among them.

Chemotherapy effects can be intense depending on the types of drugs being administered, the dose and the general vitality of the patient. Healthy cells that reproduce rapidly, like the cells in the bone marrow, stomach, mouth, hair and intestines, are very susceptible to the damage caused by chemotherapy. This is why so many of the side effects of chemotherapy impact these areas of the body.

And while one individual may experience certain and strong discomforts, another may have no difficulty at all. The effects of chemotherapy depend not only on your dosage, illness and drug, but also on your own physical strength and current health. The noticeable impacts can also vary in their intensity or change over the course of your chemotherapy treatment.

Keep reading for a breakdown of some of the most common chemotherapy effects - but remember that just because they’re common doesn’t mean they will always occur.

Nausea and Vomiting

An upset stomach, feelings of nausea or vomiting are some of the most common drawbacks associated with chemotherapy treatments. Many of the drugs used in various treatments sessions actually stimulate the chemoreceptor trigger zone of the brain - an area that controls the vomiting reflex.

Usually, if an upset stomach or vomiting occurs, it happens within a few hours or that same day. Thankfully, it also only lasts for a brief stretch of time.

Diarrhea

Having loose or watery stools more than three times a day is diarrhea and a common result of chemotherapy. The drugs attack the frequently reproducing cells that line your intestines - therefore inhibiting their ability to do their job. Diarrhea is often intermittent, but if it continues for more than a few days, you should consult with your doctor immediately.

Mouth Sores

The inside of the mouth can be injured by chemotherapy as these cells are continually regenerating. The lining may bleed and sores can develop, making the mouth area susceptible to infections. The throat and esophagus are also prone to becoming sore. To protect your mouth from infection, practice good oral hygiene.

To soothe a sore mouth, use a cotton swab to apply milk of magnesia to mouth sores, eat soft foods cold or at room temperature, avoid acidic foods or, if none of this works, talk to your doctor about a pain medication.

Hair Loss

Not all chemotherapy drugs cause hair loss, and some drugs only produce minimal thinning of the hair. Some people lose just the hair from their heads while others lose it all over their bodies. Again, it depends on the drug, the dose and the individual.

Hair loss won’t happen immediately and typically starts gradually, eventually escalating to hair coming out in larger clumps. It is one of the most dreaded chemotherapy effects, but it’s also temporary.

Customary Indicators And Nature Involved With Bladder Cancer

It seems that every time you turn on the TV, we face bad news (sometimes good) on some type of physical ailment, a problem with the mind, or another restricting condition that limits our life options. Various cancers are certainly among them, including the lesser publicized malignancies like bladder cancer.

Bladder cancer symptoms are often not apparent until the disease has progressed to an advanced and sometimes fatal stage. This means that if you’re genetically susceptible to bladder cancer, you must be diligent about testing and early detection. To learn more about the risks of bladder cancer, its causes and its symptoms, keep reading.

The Symptoms of Bladder Cancer

The most common bladder cancer symptoms include bloody urine (should be a deep or brownish red) and painful or frequent urination. Incontinence can also be sometimes associated with the disease.

Unfortunately, many of these symptoms are also associated with bladder infections, common prostrate problems, prostate infections, prostate cancer, and cystitis. That means diagnosing the disease can often be difficult.

How Bladder Cancer is Diagnosed

If a patient is at risk for developing bladder cancer (typically indicated by a genetic family history of the disease), then the person is often referred to a urologist who can test for the disease using cytology. While cytology can be an effective way to assess potential danger, it’s not a sensitive test and can sometimes produce negative results even when cancer is present.

There is also the cytoscopy, which is essentially a flexible tube with a small camera that is inserted into the urethra and bladder. Urologists then look for suspicious lesions which, if found, are then removed and biopsied.

How Bladder Cancer is Treated

The method used to treat bladder cancer will often depend on the stage of the disease and what form it has taken. For example, a superficial tumor may be easily removed in surgery simply by shaving it off. In other cases, immunotherapy is used to treat tumors, while chemotherapy may be used with others.

However, tumors or lesions that are not considered superficial must be removed by removing all or part of the bladder. Some skilled surgeons can even construct a new bladder out of the remaining skin. This is done either in conjunction with or as an alternative to radiation and chemotherapy - often used to finish off any remnants of the cancer.

Are You At Risk for Developing Bladder Cancer?

Though genetic disposition is the most common factor in determining a patient’s risk for developing the disease, most urologists agree that environmental factors can play a huge part. For example, holding excessive amounts of toxins and carcinogens in the bladder can become a major cause of bladder cancer.

This is why flushing out the system by drinking lots of water (at least eight glasses) every day can dramatically reduce your chances of developing the disease.

It’s important to remember that bladder cancer symptoms may not always be evident or appear until the advanced stages of the disease. So, if you have a family history of members experiencing this affliction, it’s important to tell your family doctor and to see a urologist regularly.

Should You Consider Alternative Treatments For Breast Cancer?

Faced with a diagnosis of cancer there are many people who choose to pursue alternative treatments.

It is important to distinguish this from complementary medicine in that ‘alternative’ options are taken in place of conventional medicine and ‘complementary’ medicine is meant to work along with and enhance conventional methods.
Yoga,
In choosing to seek out an alternative approach to healing it must be noted that this is a serious step and the individual does well to give it much thought and research. Unfortunately. there often just isn’t the background of scientific studies that can provide the needed support to indicate whether a course of treatment is safe and effective.

Nonetheless, given some of the side effects of radiation and chemotherapy it is understandable that some choose this path after they have had the necessary surgery. It may be difficult, however, to find a supportive physician who will continue to monitor your progress. If this should prove to be the case it is recommended that an individual seek out a reputable health care professional that works in the field of holistic healing.
Breast Cancer,
Most alternative treatments require a dramatic change in the way one lives. It will require commitment and discipline to achieve the best results. Many programs require a detoxification period followed by a healthful regime that includes better eating, supplementary vitamins, herbal potions, breathing exercises, massage therapy, acupuncture, and meditation to name but a few. There will no doubt be any number of products offered from others who have claimed to get successful results. While caution and research are vital, and there can be no guarantees given, no one can dispute that there have been some remarkable results with some of these non-standard approaches.

Complementary medicine, while working along with the conventional treatments taken, do not usually come with a lot of scientific grounding and research as well. As a whole, they are not used to treat the illness per se, but rather as a method to relieve some of the side effects of cancer treatments and to improve the quality of life overall.

Some of the recommended therapies involve - acupuncture and acupressure to relieve pain and stress, vitamin and herbal remedies to help build the immune system, visualization to empower the body to fight the disease, meditation to control pain and to focus on positive thoughts, aromatherapy - also to relieve pain and stress, and yoga to help strengthen the body overall.

In pursuing complementary therapies it is good to coordinate with your doctor and inform him of anything that may have a possibility of interacting negatively with the treatments he is giving you. As an example, Vitamin C is a powerful aid to boost the immune system but it can work to worsen the side effects of the chemotherapy drug methotrexate. So it may mean that you would need to wait until your treatments have concluded before adding it to your arsenal.

With the growing understanding of the benefits of these different approaches to healing more and more doctors are open to the patient’s efforts in this regard. In fact some standard hospitals are adding alternative medicine wings to complement their procedures. In approaching your doctor with any idea, be prepared with the research you have made and be willing to take the time to discuss them frankly with him. While some may not entirely agree with a reported result they will at least acknowledge that the patient benefits more often than not from an overall improvement in the quality of their life.
Complimentary Medicine
