Symptoms Associated with the Disease
Often Anorexia is diagnosed after a patient’s loved one or even the patient themselves recognizes the clear symptoms. These include unexplained and extreme weight loss, vomiting, fainting, fatigue and high levels of stress.
Once the disease progresses and the weight loss begins to take its toll, the symptoms become more dramatic and apparent. These include loss of hair, rotting or weak teeth, bad skin, dry skin, dry scalp and irregular menstrual cycles.
Before the disease can be officially identified, tracked and then treated, a psychiatrist and doctor must obtain a full physical assessment of the patient - particularly their body mass index (BMI), which is calculated using their height and weight. The patient’s BMI can then be tracked as a way of judging their progress throughout the course of treatment.
Doctors should also assess the patient’s blood - checking for a complete blood count and an evaluation of electrolytes, thyroid function and liver function. This can not only rule out other possible causes, but also potentially identify dangerous physical problems often associated with the disease.
Difficulties Treating of Anorexia Nervosa
Though diagnosing the disease may be relatively simple, treating it is another story. The patient may be in extreme denial and continue to maintain that nothing is wrong with them or their lifestyle. They may also hide symptoms or gain small amounts of weight to maintain a secretive level of obsession with their weight.
Patients are often unable to give in to greater levels of nutrition, but also very aware of the dangers associated with their disease. They understand that they need to seek treatment, but the prospect of eating more is frightening. Coupled with this is the fact that the disease causes low energy levels and even depression - making the disease harder to fight.
So, despite the fact that many anorexia symptoms can be quickly identified, the disease is very difficult to treat and cure. Early intervention is always recommended, along with the full support of a patient’s family.

It’s one of those annoying conditions which can seem to crop up despite the most diligent preventative measures. It’s yeast infection and while the majority of contaminations are not serious, it still needs to be watched because unchecked, it could lead to major complications.
A yeast infection cure is interesting simply because the word cure may not be the best term to use. In women, candida bacteria can exist in a natural state in the vaginal region and there is always the chance it can grow and multiply leading to an infection. Cholesterol is a non-soluble lipid (fat-like compound) that is transported throughout the blood stream. All living animals have cholesterol in their blood streams. The cholesterol is transported throughout the circulatory system in varying sized lipoproteins.
Good and Bad Cholesterol
Most people have probably heard of HDL and LDL, or good cholesterol and bad cholesterol. In scientific terms, these are actually named low density lipoproteins and high density lipoproteins.
High density lipoproteins are functional in the circulatory system and it’s good to have a large number of these when your cholesterol is monitored. Low density lipoproteins levels need to remain low.
It is believed that the most common determinant for cholesterol levels is what we are born with, that it’s pre-determined and based upon genetics. However, more recently studies have shown that diet and some smart food choices can also help in controlling cholesterol levels.
Soy Food Studies
One food that has gained recognition for its fight against cardiovascular disease and lowering cholesterol levels is soy foods. In recent years, the American Heart Association and the FDA have both stated that adding soy to your daily diet can help lower cholesterol levels.
Tulane University conducted one study where soy protein was given to patients. The results showed that total cholesterol, more specifically LDL and harmful triglycerides, was reduced in the blood. In order for the FDA to qualify a soy product as a recommended food for reducing cholesterol levels, it must contain at least 6.25 grams of soy protein. That is one-quarter of the recommended daily allowance of 25 grams.
There are many soy products available on the market that fit into the FDA’s guidelines. A person could eat plain soybeans or the more popular tofu. Even a nice cold glass of soymilk will meet the criteria.
Soy, Fiber and Lowering Cholesterol
Regardless of your soy food choice, you will never have to worry about cholesterol intake; soybeans in general have no cholesterol. But the main reason that soy foods have been linked to lowering cholesterol levels is their high fiber content.
Soluble fiber, or fiber that can be broken down by the human body, has been linked to lowering cholesterol levels as well as lowering blood sugar levels. Therefore, many people with high risks for both diabetes and cardiovascular disease have decided to add soy foods to their daily diets.
Asian populations have been eating soy foods for over 1000 years and continue to reap the benefits. In fact, it was the low incidence of heart disease in the Asian population that first made the Western world look at their eating patterns.
Studies have shown that Asian populations that eat a diet high in soy, at least 40 to 55 grams of soy protein per day, are at a lower risk for heart disease. Combine these statistics with the evidence collected by several other organizations and it makes sense that soy foods are playing a major role in long-term health for Americans.

How the Allergic Reaction Works
A food allergy is actually an immune system function. Basically, the body senses a substance that it doesn’t like or want inside the body. It responds by releasing white blood cells along with histamine and leukotrienes, which cause inflammation. That inflammation can occur in the stomach, intestinal tract, throat, mouth or in the form of a rash.

With delayed allergic reactions, you may not see symptoms for as many as 3 days. Typically, delayed reactions are caused by a large amount of the culprit food.
Finding Out the Diet Resulting in Your Allergies
Keep Track of Everything You Eat
Keep a food diary for three months, recording everything you eat and any symptoms. This may help you to identify an obvious relationship between a food and an adverse reaction.
Cut Out Suspect Food
If you suspect a certain food is causing your allergies, don’t eat it for three weeks, and then reintroduce it to see if it causes problems. If it does, you’ve pinpointed your allergy.
If this single-food elimination doesn’t work, exclude all the most likely culprits for three weeks. Then try a small amount of one of these foods every four days to see if it triggers a reaction. However, if you are not knowledgeable about nutrition, don’t attempt this exclusion diet without medical supervision.
Also, be aware that when you give up a food to which you are allergic, you may experience temporary withdrawal symptoms, such as headaches, fatigue, and irritability. This is normal and should not be cause for concern.
Eliminate the Culprit Food
Once you identify your culprit foods, you can omit them from your diet altogether, in which case all your symptoms should disappear within three to six months. Or, if you are not severely allergic, see whether you can eat a small amount once every four days or more without trouble. You may need to exclude the culprit foods completely for six months before you gradually reintroduce them in this way.
By understanding your allergies, the types you have and seeing the relationship between then and what you eat, you can find out which afflict you and gain relief.

Renal artery stenosis is a condition in which your blood supply to your kidney is blocked. If you have this, your kidney will eventually become starved of oxygen and will eventually stop working.
It causes between 5-22% of cases of advanced kidney disease in US patients over the age of 50. It may also be a factor in between 1-10% of adults with high blood pressure.
The two major problems of renal artery stenosis is that you can develop bad hypertension, which is really difficult to control. Renal failure is the other major complication.

Phytoestrogens, a plant based estrogen-like substance, is present in soy foods and often mimic estrogen, the reproductive hormone. One such phytoestrogen present in soybeans is that called isoflavone. Studies have shown that these isoflavones may reduce a woman’s risk of developing breast cancer.
Many professional organizations along with the FDA are looking at the relationship between healthy soy products and the probability of them helping prevent breast cancer and other hormone-related cancers.
Another Side of the Picture
Dr. Takeshi Hirayama at the National Cancer Research Institute in Tokyo conducted one of the largest cancer studies in medical history. Over 120,000 people were monitored for decades. One of these studies investigated the risk of breast cancer based on the women’s intake of fat via meat, eggs, butter and cheese. Bottom line; the more of these foods consumed the greater the risk of breast cancer.
Those who consume meat on a daily base are almost four times at greater risk of getting breast cancer than women who eat little or no meat. Likewise, as eggs, butter and cheese consumption goes up so does the risk of breast cancer.
Start Now with Prevention
The sooner good eating habits begin the better. Cut back on meat, eggs, and dairy products and introduce soy. Soy foods are no longer just for vegetarians. Soybeans, soymilk, tofu and other soy products are receiving world recognition for their healthy and healing characteristics.
