Dealing With Daibetes And Reversing Insulin Resistance

Reversing Insulin Resistance

A lot of people have no idea what insulin resistance is, and they may have it. When this diagnosis is made, it is often in conjunction with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS). This is a reproductive disorder that can render a women infertile if it is not cared for and reversed. Someone with PCOS usually has resistance to insulin, and that means she gains weight very easily. When this happens, the reproductive system gets out of whack and she is temporarily infertile. One of the keys to restoring fertility is reversing insulin resistance.

At its most basic, insulin resistance is when the body does not register the insulin that is it producing. When that happens, it keeps producing it in overdrive. When a person with this condition eats anything that affects the blood sugar, it makes that person even hungrier because the body is not registering things right. Someone with this condition gains weight because the body wants to store sugar as fat immediately. This is one of the keys to reversing insulin resistance.

As you may have guessed, reverse insulin resistance is going to have something to do with the amount of carbs that you eat each day. The Atkins diet was seen as a fad for a while, but those that want to work on reversing insulin resistance are actually the ones that should be on this diet. You don’t have to do Atkins to go about reversing insulin resistance, however, as you can just watch what types of carbs you are putting into your body. You want to get those that are low on the glycemic index.

Your overall eating habits (even without a specific diet program) can help with reversing insulin resistance. You have to eat more meats and fats, and cut down dramatically on your carbs. When you do eat carbs, you want them to be the ones that have the least affect on blood sugar. That stops the over-production of insulin, and it also helps someone with this condition to slim down. Good carbs include green vegetables, some fruits, and whole grains. Think of avoiding white foods and you are on the right track. There are many diets out there that can help with reverse insulin resistance if you need something more structured.

Once the process of reversing insulin resistance is starting, the changes in the body are going to be very good ones. That means that fertility is going to be restored as the body begins to make less insulin and the weight starts to come off. Other than fertility reasons, reversing true insulin resistance can help you avoid type 2 diabetes. If left unchecked, the body will have made so much insulin that it just stops, and that is when diabetes occurs. Not only can this help you with the family that you want, reversing insulin resistance can add quality years to your life.

Acne Alternative Treatment

Tanning Booths: A Questionable Form of Acne Alternative Treatment

As a teenage girl, puberty is high on the list of things that cause stress. Stress and changing hormones cause acne. Some teenagers are lucky and get through puberty with only a few blemishes at most. Others suffer with acne that is practically disfiguring. So, many teenagers are trying to avoid acne and the regular creams by using tanning booths as their method of acne alternative treatment.

Tans Hiding Blemishes

It is funny to think that only a hundred years ago it was highly unfashionable to have a tan. Pale skin was the way to go for women, and they would hide their skin behind layers of clothing, hats, and parasols. However, with Coco Chanel making the tan fashionable, tans have become stylish and now too a popular acne alternative treatment.

Acne Alternative Treatment
This acne alternative treatment has a basis in, surprisingly, science. When exposed to sunlight, the melanin in the skin triggers the color that results in a tan. The melanin production cancels out (albeit only for a short while) the oil glands that cause acne. Any scars that have been caused by acne seem to disappear beneath a dark tan.

It might seem to many that this acne alternative treatment is too good to be true, and indeed it is. A tan might look good, but repeated exposure to the UV rays in a tanning booth results in problems far greater than using it just as an acne alternative treatment.

For example, a teenager who decides to tan all the time will get far more than a tan, she will get an orange complexion. Basically, a tan is a sign of damaged epidermal layers. Too many teens decide that the darker their tan, the better their chances of not having their acne come back. The reality is that the acne is still there, and just waiting.

Acne Treatment
Sometimes the acne is so severe that not even a tan can hide it. A frustrated teenager who decides, after a long period of tanning, that she wants to stop tanning might find increased pigmentation (a lot of freckles or moles), puffiness (especially in the eye area) wrinkles, and perhaps even skin cancer.

So, keeping all of this in mind, it is safe to say that using tanning beds is not only an unsuccessful way to combat acne, but it is also a method that can have long-term damaging consequences. Thus, a teen should go see a dermatologist to get acne-free skin. More about Acne Treatment Resources.

Asthma and Environmental Tobacco Smoke

Nonsmokers are exposed to many of the same injurious agents inhaled by active smokers. The dangers of secondhand tobacco smoke have been widely publicized. Among them, it should be noted that children exposed to parental secondhand smoke have been found to have more respiratory illnesses, including asthma. Asthmatic children of smokers have been shown to have more frequent attacks. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has reported a higher frequency of asthmatic attacks in up to one million children of cigarette smokers. In the same report the EPA attributed up to 300,000 cases of bronchitis and other respiratory infections in small children to their exposure to secondhand smoke. Environmental tobacco smoke is one of the most frequent triggers of asthmatic attacks reported by patients. In sensitive individuals, even brief inhalation of secondhand smoke may precipitate a severe asthmatic attack.

Asthmatic individuals frequently report that household family members continue to smoke despite the patient’s illness. Often the smoking individual will report that they only smoke “in another room.” Separating smokers and nqnsmokers in the home or workplace does not eliminate exposure to secondhand smoke. To reduce exposure, smoking must be completely prohibited or restricted to a separately ventilated area in order to provide protection for all nonsmokers and especially those with bronchial asthma.

Wood Smoke

Wood smoke from wood-burning stoves and fireplaces may also be an irritant and aggravate bronchial asthma. Approximately 6 percent of homes in the United States have wood stoves and 19 percent have fireplaces. Although the smoke from wood stoves and fireplaces is vented to the outdoors, emissions are found to contaminate indoor air during start up and when stoking. Particulate matter may also be produced from these sources, which may irritate bronchial asthma. Good ventilation is essential and an air filter will be helpful if a stove cannot be removed.

Gas Stoves

Gas stoves may also be a source of indoor pollution. Several airborne irritants may be released by gas combustion including nitrogen dioxide. Although some studies have not found an association between gas stoves and asthma, a recent report suggests that gas stoves may aggravate asthma. As a rule, asthmatic patients should avoid gas and wood-burning stoves.

Formaldehyde and Other Indoor Pollutants

Formaldehyde and other compounds that exist as vapors are found indoors as emissions from construction materials, furnishings such as carpeting, and insulation. Formaldehyde is used in many products including cosmetics, toiletries, medications, and in some foods as a preservative. This compound is known to be irritating to the lining of the nose and bronchial tubes and cases of occupational asthma due to formaldehyde have been reported. At this time, it is not clear how great a role formaldehyde and similar compounds play in aggravating bronchial asthma. Th minimize your risk of exposure to these vapors, building materials and furnishings can be selected that do not contain formaldehyde and that have low rates of emission of similar compounds. Ventilation can be increased in areas that are suspected or known to have increased amounts of these substances. Existing sources of formaldehyde such as carpeting can be removed from the home or office. Cleaning solutions, gasoline, and similar materials’ are best stored in a separate area with excellent ventilation.

Asthmatic attacks have been demonstrated to occur frequently when patients are exposed to strong odors. Simple cooking odors may be extremely irritating. Household sprays, especially those used for cleaning, are often sources of irritation. Other examples include insecticide sprays, deodorants, hair sprays, and perfumes. Paint fumes can be extremely irritating and should be avoided. The simple measures of ensuring adequate ventilation and using an air filter will provide relief from many of these odors if they cannot be avoided.

Worm Infestations Medicines - Drugs Used in Worm Infestations

Hookworm

In India, hookworm disease is mainly caused by Ancylostoma duodenale and amaricanus (hookworm). The ovum (egg) of the parasite grows into larva (baby parasite) in the soil, and usually penetrates the skin of those who walk barefoot. From the skin, the larva reaches the intestines through the blood and there it grows into an adult worm. The female wa reaches eggs in the intestines which are excreted in the faeces.

Infected patients may suffer from localized itching or skin rash when the larva enters through the skin. The most serious manifestation produced by the hookworm is anaemia which is due to the sucking of blood by the worm and ulcerations in the intestines. The anaemia may be severe if the infection is heavy and the diet is poor in iron. In children and menstruating woman, it may cause weakness, breathlessness, palpitation, constipation, and headache. The diagnosis is confirmed by examination of the stools for the presence of ova of the worm.

Preventive Measures: The entrance of the worm into the body can be prevented by wearing shoes to avoid direct contact of the skin with the soil.

Diet: A diet rich in protein and iron should be taken regularly. The foods most suitable for patients of anaemia caused by hookworm are cereals, spinach, cauliflower, radish, beans, tomato, orange, prune, apricot, almond, walnut, pistachio nut, milk, egg, meat (liver, kidney and heart), fish and poultry.

Drugs: Pyrentel, mebendazole or albendazole is the first choice.

Pinworm

Pinworm disease is caused by Enterobius vermicularis (pinworm). The eggs of this worm are ingested through contaminated food or drinks. Their life cycle is completed in the gastrointestinal tract and the fertilized female lays eggs around the anus at night when the patient goes to bed. The movements of the worm in the process of laying eggs, cause intense itching and the patient scratches the affected part. Thus he is reinfested by the direct transfer of eggs by contaminated fingers from the anus to the mouth. This cycle is repeated many times. Children are the usual victims and spread the disease in the family. It is characterized by itching around anus, specially at night. The diagnosis is usually made when the. adult worm (0.8 to 1:2 cm in length and 0.3 to 3.5 mm thick, white in colour) is discovered by the patient or during stool examination.

Preventive Measures: The following preventive measure should be adopted:

Fingernails should be regularly trimmed.

Underwear should be washed and dried in the sunlight or ironed every day.

To control the infection all members of the family should be examined and treated.

Hand-washing before meals is a must.

Why You Should Use A Weight Lifting Program Chart

I’ve been bodybuilding and fitness training for many years now and I’ve learnt that my best increase in muscle mass is made when I keep a record of my gym workouts. I publish a blank weight lifting chart for anyone to download, but let me explain why I recommend you use a Fitness log sheet.

What benefits does a Fitness log sheet give you?

It doesn’t matter if you want to increase muscle mass or just tone up and loss body fat, because if you really want to achieve your fitness goals then you should be logging your workout sessions.

If you log your workout sets, reps and weights you will have an accurate history of your previous sessions. In order to increase muscle size you must keep pushing yourself a little bit more at each gym session in order to improve on your previous workout.

By keeping this record and taking it to your next workout session you can refer to the Fitness log sheet and try and improve on the exercises you recorded. Improvements can be anything from from an extra 2 pounds on your final set of barbell curls, to knocking a few seconds of your personal best on a 10k run.

Personally I don’t stop at a Fitness log sheet, I also use additional software I have developed to record my weight and body mass index (BMI) against goals that I set before I start a new workout program. This software produces charts that can show me if I’m on target or not and acts as a great motivational tool.

Where to download the printable exercise log?

You can download all my software for free directly from my website, including the workout log sheet. I provide articles and videos on how to use the Fitness log sheet and other tools.

There is no need to register, or even give me your email address. Additional information can be found here: blank weight lifting chart

Fitness Training For Children

It seems that nowadays we our children are more overweight than ever before. There are so many reasons why this is true. There are more video games and television programs than ever before. Children have become less active and this contributes a great amount to the weight gain in our youth that we have experienced. Finding the right fitness training plan that will suit your child is very important to their health. Make exercising and boxing training fun for your child, and your child will be more likely to join in on the fitness training. Minor adjustments that are made to promote fitness training will do wonders for your child’s physical health. Get the whole family involved in a fitness training plan, and your child is less likely to object. You will also need to make some changes in their diets too.

Fitness Training Can Be Fun Too

Fitness training can be fun for your children, and is more likely to be accepted and followed when it is exciting and fun. A day at the park can be an excellent form of fitness training. With so much room for various activities you can keep your fitness training going all day long. Bring a ball, Frisbee, bike or even a scooter and this will help make your day enjoyable while providing you beneficial Boxing Fitness training. A fitness club in your area might offer exercise classes designed to provide fitness training for children with good boxing equipment. They will get to dance, jump around and just get the exercise they need. These are usually very popular classes at fitness training clubs, so be sure to sign up soon, just in case there is a waiting list.

Trade Soda for Water and Juice

Kids seem to keep hydrated with soda rather that water or juice. This is bad for a number of reasons, including the fact that soda doesn’t really hydrate you. It actually makes you thirstier, and therefore you end up drinking more soda. There are no vitamins in soda, but there is plenty of sugar. Water is a necessity for our bodies and needs to be consumed daily by children. If your child still craves the sweet taste of soda, you could offer them a healthy glass of juice. Snacks too need to be controlled, and can be done by not keeping cookies and candy readily available. Instead fill the fridge with a variety of fruits, and chances are your child will welcome the change.

Some Of The Benefits Of Exercise

Exercise not only makes you look good but it also makes you feel good. The outside is what everyone else sees, but the important work is going on inside the body. You get a glimpse of a person’s health by examining the outside of their bodies, but the inside tells the real story. You’d be amazed at who was really healthy and who was not. Being thin is not synonymous with being healthy.

The number one benefit of physical activity is weight loss. I name this one first because obesity brings about a lot of physiological changes in the body that are not good. An overweight and obese individual is at greater risk for heart disease, stroke, heart attack, diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and joint pain. When obesity is no longer a factor through regular exercise, these other conditions that may have developed are lessened or disappear all together.

So, all of the major benefits that we can think of are tied to obesity in some way. Losing weight through exercise makes a big difference in a person’s life. They may not realize it but they are preventing premature death from disease by lowering their body weight.

Exercise has psychological benefits. We previously talked about the mind-body connection. On a daily basis, our bodies go through many changes. Depending on the nature of your job, stress could be a big factor. Stress can cause the body to change the way that it works. Stress really can kill if the condition continues and worsens over time.

Not only stress on the job, but stress in the home can affect the body. Exercise works to alleviate that stress and the chronic problems it causes. More oxygen to the brain means a clearer head when it comes to creating solutions to problems. You are better able to deal with the situation at hand.

Exercise has been known to reduce or get rid of depressive feelings. If your depression is tied to an inability to cope with life or the way that you look, exercise will change the way you look as the program continues. When we feel good, it gives us hope in other areas of our lives. It always seemed funny when women would say that if their hair didn’t look good that they didn’t feel good. It is about perception on many levels. How we perceive ourselves is the defining factor in how we see all areas of our lives.

Exercise strengthens all parts of our bodies. We can see what it does for our muscles but it also builds stronger bone and joints. Research has been done on bone strength and exercise in senior adults. High impact exercises actually strengthen bone. This lowers the risk of osteoporosis as we age and keep seniors moving. Bone density is important to the overall strength of the bone.
