Wouldn’t it be great to be able to eat as much as you want as often as you want and have body fat melt away while you sleep, watch TV, or sit behind your desk at work? I’d certainly go for that - being able to be fit with very little or no effort at all.

Turn on the TV and what do we see? Television ads promising you weight loss and fitness with no effort. Want to lose that extra fat around your belly? Just take these pills. Walk into the bookstore and browse through the rows and rows of books advocating one diet fad or the other. The problem is that most of them offer conflicting information. I’ll be straightforward in telling you that rather than separating the fat from your body, most of these people are more interested in separating your money from your wallet.

I’ve tried many of these diet and exercise fads and can tell you that most of them flat out do not work. Some of the diets will work, but will force your body to do things that it was designed to not do, therefore your body thinks it’s deathly ill and starts burning fat as an energy source. Losing fat is not a bad thing at all, but tricking your body into burning fat by responding with a survival mechanism is. What are the long term effects of these fad diets? Who really wants to live the type of restrictive lifestyle that these diets push on you? Who really wants to work hard and suffer for something that in 20 years from now will be the laughingstock of the fitness community? There has to be a better way…

The true path to fat loss is so simple, yet no diet book author would ever admit it. The secret is this:

Burn more calories than you eat.

That’s all. There’s really nothing more to it than that, and you probably already know this! There is no more effective way, no special fruit from the amazon, no machine that you can use that will give you better results.

Unfortunately there are plenty of people who would like to pull the wool over your eyes about what to eat, how to starve yourself, what machine to use to get the perfect body. Next time you reach for the next diet fad book, brochure on an ab exerciser, or pick up the phone to dial a number you got off of an infomercial, think about this - they didn’t work in the past, and they won’t work again because you’re still not burning more calories than you’re taking in.

After scouring the internet, bookstores, and trying just about any diet I could find to lose that extra 30 pounds I’ll tell you what’s worked for me:

Keep a food journal, tracking all of the calories that you take in. Be detailed. You’ll be surprised at how much stuff you can cut out if you just write it down. Personally, I was disgusted at the amount of sugars and junk foods I was ingesting on a daily basis. I didn’t eliminate them, only cut back a little.

Find out how many calories you burn in a day. You burn most of your calories just by existing. This is called basal metabolism. Find a chart to see how many calories are burned for certain activities for your weight class.

Exercise regularly. It doesn’t take much, only around 20 minutes a day 3-5 days a week. Regular exercise will increase your metabolism and cause your body to burn even more calories even while you’re not active.

Being fit is a lifestyle. It doesn’t have to be severely limiting and it doesn’t even have to be painful. Being fit is always easier in the long run than putting yourself through the ringer with limiting or starvation diets.

My search for the perfect diet and exercise program took me 8 years and ironically the one thing that worked for me was the easiest and least expensive thing out of all of the others I tried.

Tokyo Personal Trainer talks about How to stretch for every occasion

Stretching is a exceptionally common subject these days. When to stretch. Where to stretch. How to stretch. How long to stretch. How not to stretch.

I have always been told by all my instructors in whatever exercise I have done that you need to warm up and stretch before you initiate any exercise course. All through my schooldays all my coaches had me warm up and stretch. It didn’t matter which training it was. Swimming, water polo, football, softball, baseball, soccer, track, and weight lighting.

Then I joined the Armed Forces and even they had us warm up and stretch. They usually did what we called a daily seven, which consisted of 7 drills that were completed by the numbers followed by a formation run or obstacle course. Chanting was then introduced to help build up cardio endurance after warm up.

Latter I got involved in martial arts, (Judo, Karate, Boxing, Aikido, and wrestling). All these exercises also require you to warm up and stretch. I spent over 20 years doing martial arts, triathlons, bodybuilding, power lifting and numerous other team and individual intramural sports. The same principals applied. No matter what kind of training you did it was essential to warm up, stretch and at the finish to cool down and stretch. Lately I have just started taking Yoga. This also requires the same principals.

All these diverse sports, however, entail a unique type of stretch.

The key is to recognize how and when to use the suitable form of stretching to thwart injury and attain optimal performance. So what style of stretching do you do?

There is a controlled style of stretching, which is called dynamic. This helps to lengthen your muscles using similar actions to the activity you will be doing. You always start out slowly and increase to a maximum range of motion. Nearly all exercises will consist of running, jumping, hopping, and stepping up and down. There are a a small number of exceptions to the rules such as swimming, which can be done in the water. Static stretches are more often than not done at the conclusion of your workout when your body will get the best results.

As far as flexibility goes, PNF stretching can be used. This however requires a partner to apply force which you resist by trying to come back to the initial position. This helps to give you more range of motion by increasing your kinesthetic memory.

There are many benefits to good stretching and form. By having flexibility and extra freedom of movement you will raise your ability to complete simple to difficult tasks with a lesser amount of effort. A regular daily stretching habit will help to correct your posture and self esteem by looking better and feeling better about yourself. Stretching helps to relieve tension in the muscles and helps you lead a more dynamic lifestyle.

Four Myths about Diet That You Should Pay No Attention To. Useful Information to Take Into Consideration

Nowhere are there more fad diets, weight loss schemes and wild, completely unsubstantiated weight loss advice circulating than in the USA. With so much conflicting “information” out there, it’s no wonder people don’t know where to turn to lose weight properly and in a healthy way. The fact is many people assume they are eating healthy although it’s closer to the truth that many of them don’t even come close to eating a balanced, nutritious diet.

The reason for this is mostly due to the fact that they are guiding themselves with false information propagated by fad diets put out there by weight loss companies. Most of these diets are leading people to believe that cutting out certain nutrients is what it takes to properly loose weight. Nothing can be further from the truth. Here are four common myths which lead many dieters to take the wrong road to try to find their weight loss salvation.

MYTH # 1) YOU HAVE TO STARVE YOURSELF TO LOOSE WEIGHT
This is probably the most commonly heard and longest running myth about weight loss out there. The fact is, if you don’t eat enough, your metabolism will slow down greatly making your body want to store fat thus making most of your initial weight loss come from water and muscle. This makes your body-fat percentage go up, meaning you are losing weight, but you are actually getting fatter!

The average woman should not eat less than 1000 calories per day and the average man should not eat less than 1200 calories per day unless under the direction of a physician. If you eat 5-6 smaller meals a day verses 3 bigger ones within a proper calorie range, you will never feel hungry and you will lose weight while staying healthy.

MYTH # 2) EAT NO FAT WHATSOEVER
This is another myth that has been around for a long time. It probably comes from the fact you do need to limit your fat intake to around 15% to 20% of your overall daily calorie intake. “If eating only a little is good, then eating none must be better”, but the fact is, your body does need that 15% to 20% of fat in your diet because fat helps lubricate your joints, keeps your skin smooth and elastic, provides a source of energy, helps your nervous system to function properly and provides insulation from cold weather. Olive, flaxseed and fish oils are good sources of fats. Avoid saturated fats and hydrogenated (trans) fats.

MYTH # 3) YOU SHOULD NOT EAT FROM CERTAIN FOOD GROUPS
A lot of fad diets adhere to cutting out one food group or another. The Atkins diet, which sparked a whole host of copycat diets, placed an emphasis on eliminating carbohydrates for example. The fact is your body needs a balance of carbohydrates, protein and fat to function properly and so none of them should be eliminated from your diet. Water, vitamins, minerals and fiber are also needed and should be a part of your regular daily intake. The key is to try to keep the carbs, proteins and fats in the proper range at approximately 60% for carbs, 25% for proteins and 15% for fats.

MYTH # 4) TO GET ENOUGH PROTEIN, YOU HAVE TO EAT MEAT
While it is true that meat is a great source of protein, it is certainly not the only one. Meat can also be high in fat and sodium. Dairy products are usually high in fat, but now there are plenty of low-fat and fat-free dairy products to choose from and they do not compromise the protein value. Egg whites are also a prime source of protein. These are all sources of complete proteins. Various vegetables and legumes also contain proteins but these are all incomplete proteins and must be eaten in the right combinations to become complete. One example is combining beans with rice.

The best way to be sure you are getting a well balanced, nutrient rich diet is to eat more whole foods and less processed, pre-packaged foods and to avoid eating out as much as possible. Make eating out an occasional treat, but try to prepare most of your meals yourself and you will be on your way to living a healthier, leaner lifestyle.

Can You Safely Lose 30 Pounds in 30 Days? Helpful Things to Consider

Spend five minutes doing the research and you’ll quickly see that conventional weight loss thinking says the only safe way to lose weight is at the rate of 2 pounds a week.

If faster weight loss is accomplished using drugs, or chemicals, or harsh stimulants such as ephedra, ma huang and caffeine, then conventional thinking is correct. What good is losing 15 pounds or more in a month if you damage or completely lose the use of your liver or kidneys?

These “miracle” weight loss methods only result in a miracle if you don’t damage your bodily functions, or die in the process.

Having said that, there is at least ONE way you can lose weight quickly, while at the same time improving your overall health.

It involves a combination of a protein-rich diet drink, a common sense approach to “regular” meals, and the use of a Internal Cleanser to remove the buildup of toxins in our bodies.

These toxins are ingested by all of us in a variety of ways: bad air, chemically enhanced public water, pesticide coated foods, etc. These foreign invaders are isolated by our bodies in fat cells, where they do the least damage to our system. These fat cells are then surrounded by water (kind of like the way an old castle used moats to protect against invaders, only in reverse…the invaders are trapped in the Fat Castle, and surrounded by water to keep them there.)

Once the toxins are flushed from our bodies, the fat cells are then burned up as a source of energy, and the excess water is also absorbed and flushed in the same process. This can result is rapid weight loss (I lost 8 pounds in my first 5 days, on the way towards 25 pounds lost in the first 30 days, and 60 pounds lost in 100 days).

The other two factors that play into rapid weight loss is to make sure your body gets enough protein during a 24 hour period. The easiest way to accomplish this is by using a protein supplement (normally in powdered form) which you mix into a drink (or a shake or a soup). Figure about one gram of protein per pound of body weight.

At the same time, you’ll want to limit your intake of bad carbohydrates (think Potato Chips, Popcorn, etc.) and fat. This will cause your body to begin to burn the excess fat you have stored up. You’ll also want to eliminate all your sources of refined sugars. Sodas are the biggest offenders here, but coffee with any form of sweetener will slow down your weight loss as well.

For your normal meals, try and limit your caloric intake to about 600 calories. If you have two protein drinks during the day (breakfast and dinner) with a 600 calorie lunch and little to no snacking (apples and unsalted almonds are okay in small amounts) you’ll be on a 1,200-1,400 calorie diet, and your body will overnight become a fat burning machine.

Toss in a little walking (a mile or so to begin if you are in any reasonable shape, less if you are not) and you are only a month away from dropping as much as 30 pounds, safely.

Can You Really Eat More and Lose Weight? Interesting Points to Be Aware of

Recently, someone asked me for my views about the amount of daily calories they should consume, and whether a 800-1000 calories’ intake can help to speed up their weight loss.

I thought this is something you’d be interested in, so I’m going to share my thoughts with you as well.

You’ve probably heard this many times: consuming too many calories makes us overweight. Of course, this is TRUE…

Both eating less or exercising more will most definitely result in weight loss.

It’s a simple matter of arithmatic — if your “calories out” is more than your “calories in”, you will lose weight.

Thus, it becomes very natural of us to think that if cutting calories is such a good thing, then the more you cut, the better, right? Doesn’t this mean that we’ll lose the excess weight faster?

In reality, it is not so.

Making a too-drastic cut in your caloric intake is a very, very bad idea.

If you have been dieting for a while, you would notice that the extremely low-calorie diets have been around for the longest time. But interestingly, most of the time they don’t lead to permanent weight loss.

Nonetheless, I’ve heard people discussing diets that recommend as low as 800 calories a day! I’m here to tell you that this kind of low levels is downright dangerous for your health.

According to weight loss experts, cutting your intake down to, or under, 1000 calories per day sets you up for an inevitable failure.

Why?

Because when you reduce your caloric intake down to this low, you are actually sending your body into “starvation mode” by eating far too little.

In simple terms, your body will start to think that there is a famine. And in order to maintain your weight while it “thinks” you are starving, your body’s metabolism rate will actually slow down. And your body will then start to store the calories into your fat cells instead.

If you want to prevent yourself from falling into this starvation mode “trap”, you must first know how many
calories your body requires everyday to maintain itself. A quick and easy way to do this is to use the tools that are found on our Web site at

Whenever you restrict calories below the level that you body needs to function, your body senses starvation and switches into the “conservation” mode. Besides, there is another reason why extreme low-cal diets won’t work — it is not an easy feat to stay on it for long. Finally, when you experience extreme hunger, the next thing you’ll tend to do is to “binge eat”. And guess what? In the end, after all the initial effort you’ve put into losing the weight, you will actually gain back more weight than you had lost during the diet.

And the worst thing is: The next time you try to go on a diet again, your body gets smarter and the fat cells will expand more to store more calories as they are getting ready to go through another “famine”. Your metabolism will also be reduced tremendously. You’ll find that you are not able to lose the weight as fast or as easy as the previous time. And you’ll get frustrated because you’ve had to deprive yourself of your favorite foods. So what do you do next? You overeat again.

So, stay away from these low-cal diets. They aren’t worth your time!

Can You Lose Weight Without A Weight Loss Plan? Interesting Facts to Remember

The simple answer to this question is NO! However that is probably not going to leave many readers satisfied with this article that is supposed to be about weight loss plans. So in the next few paragraphs I want to tell you more specifically why it is a good idea to lose weight number one, and then why it is essential that you have a strategy number two.

So why do we lose weight? Well actually much of the time it is because we don’t like how we look. The problem with that is it is such a fickle feeling and doesn’t provide enough incentive to buckle down to a weight loss plan and carry it out. We can get through life fairly unscathed socially when we are fat if we avoid certain situations namely anything having to do with a swimming suit or an athletic event. The major thing that allows us to do this is the fact that everyone else around us is fat and so we fit right in. We all, especially those in the northern climes that don’t benefit from good amounts of sun, use food to elevate our mood and the fact is that it works. What we are starting to understand is that our motivation should be our health rather than our looks, and if we truly new how dangerous obesity is it would scare us enough that we would take losing weight seriously.

The fact that obesity is a killer is plain. The big three killers for the obese would be art disease atherosclerotic disease, diabetes, and cancer.
