Why Not Surprise Your Kids With Some Fruit Smoothies For Snack

Both fresh and frozen fruits are great in smoothies. We like berries, bananas, pineapples and peaches a lot in ours. You can combine a few different types of fruit or stick with just one or two. It’s best to begin with some flavors that your kids already like. If she loves peaches and vanilla ice cream, why not make a smoothie with frozen peaches, low-fat vanilla yogurt and a good splash of milk. If your child likes bananas and absolutely loves chocolate ice cream, blend some frozen slices of banana with chocolate milk.

Try putting peanut butter on celery, something which is also a great snack for the kids. Kids can often be picky eaters. The best solution is to just keep offering a variety of foods to them . The saying ‘eat your vegetables before you get dessert’ is a method that just seems to make vegetables more unappetizing. What if instead we flipped the script?

How about after broccoli then chocolate cake? Fruit and vegetable juices are another delicious and refreshing way to meet your goal of five servings a day. But, the drawback to juices is that they are not a good source of fiber. And in many cases, children will drink their fill of juice and not have any appetite left for their meals. Juices are also packed full of calories.

It is impossible to deny that fruits and veggies deliver tremendous health benefits. Adult cancer risk is cut in half, medical research shows, among those who eat a hearty amount of fruits and vegetables instead of skimping on those five important daily servings. By eating more fruits and vegetables you can lower the risk of heart attack, stroke, and adult blindness.

We can make up excuses all day long, but the fact remains that we know we should eat more produce. Some folks claim they are too busy to chop and dice vegetables, and others claim these foods cost too much. Letting a piece of fruit or a vegetable get too ripe is another way some excuse themselves from eating more produce.
