Getting back to your natural way of feeling is the very definition of emotional healing. And if you must feel them, go off in private somewhere and once you’re over it, then you can come back to be around all the other sane, rational, ordinary people.
We’ve been taught emotions are a source of shame, so you must hide them, repress them, suppress them in some way - whatever it takes to manage them so you don’t get out of hand. Just so you get control of your emotions. That’s how everyone tells you to deal with your emotions.
Which would be great, except it’s one hundred percent wrong.
You don’t want to mange your emotions. You do not want to control them, either. You don’t want to stuff them down. Rather, you want to feel them. Or let me say, your heart wants to feel them. And when you deny your heart, you’re in for a world of pain. Maybe not today, but it’s coming. Count on it.
The solution is to open up your heart wide and full and let it all in. Feel every single feeling you can. Which is the way you come to be powerful. That’s how you become more alive. That’s the way you create the life you want, and live a life worth living. Returning to that natural state of being equals good emotional health. That’s what it’s all about. Picture yourself as being an open fountain.
Please understand, this doesn’t involve acting like your heart is on your sleeve so you go around getting your feelings hurt every day. It does not mean that you’re going to end up stuck in despair and darkness. And it does not mean you will fly into a rage just because someone pushes your buttons.
Not at all. Actually,it means you’re not going to be afraid of your feelings. It means you will feel more powerful than ever. And it means you’re going to be the most alive person you know.
It’s truly beyond words. It’s ten times better than anything you could imagine when you’re standing on the other side of the fence. It’s like heaven on earth. That’s what emotional healing, and good emotional health can do for you.
If you will just simply feel all your feelings that’s what can happen. When you allow all your feelings to enter your heart. When you let your heart do its job.
You have what I call an emotional wellspring bubbling up inside you all the time, and when you tap into its flow, you can be and have and do whatever you want.
To me, emotional healing involves the choices you make, the steps you take, to open your heart full and wide and simply feel all your feelings that come up. So they can flow through you. Basically, emotional healing involves doing what it takes to tear down the walls you’ve put up around your heart. Walls that restrict or even keep out the flow of our raw material of life. The raw material of life is that flow of emotion..
Because that’s what emotion is - raw material that we use to create the world around us. Calling it just emotion really limits it too much. We really need a new name for it. This flow of raw material really stands as so much more that what we think it is. It really is life itself.

How do you deal with the grief that never seems to end?
To begin with, let me mention that obviously it will take time to heal. It won’t happen overnight, especially when tragedy strikes. But when it goes on forever and you can’t move past this grief stage, then it’s time to view it a little deeper.
I believe that emotions are designed to flow. You’re not supposed to feel the same emotions over and over and over again. That’s called ‘being stuck’. I believe many people are stuck in one way or another. I know I was. While it could be anger, fear, or shame, for this article, let’s focus on dealing with the grief that never seems to end.
You have a pathway of emotion, agreed? You have a stream of feelings, and a stream of thoughts. The feelings and thoughts are always on; always flowing. And they’re flowing in the same pathway, actually. In a healthy situation, you would be feeling new feelings all the time. A smorgasbord of feelings.
Even when I’m healthy, there will be a symphony - a range - of various feelings. To always feel the same exact thing whenever something triggers my memories of some past event would get rather boring, to say the least. So what’s going on? Why all the grief? Why would you have the same feelings over and over again?
To use the ’stream’ analogy, I would say there’s a boulder in the stream. Until this boulder is removed, the grief goes on and on and on.
And your boulder can be removed! It’s your life, it’s your stream, and it’s your boulder. You’ve got to really understand this.
There’s nothing intractable unless I believe it is. Understand? This boulder will be just as hard to get rid of as you believe it to be.
Changing a belief is easy. The difficulty comes in when we have to feel and release the energy that surrounds the belief. Most people would rather die than do this.
So what’s in your boulder? It’s a mixture of your beliefs and attitudes your feelings and thoughts, and your decisions and choices. Maybe a few other things as well. Whatever’s there, it’s your contribution. And that’s good news!
This is also the necessary first step to dealing with grief. I must own that I am doing it to myself. You’ve got to really let it in. Let it in to your heart. Let it in to your mind. “I created this.”
And not as a way to blame or shame yourself! That’s not what ownership is. And not as a way to judge yourself or feel sorry for yourself. You need to take this past the level of pity if you want to be dealing with grief. Also the shame, judgment and blame stage. One good way involves giving yourself five minutes to just feel sorry for yourself for creating this boulder. And when you’re done stop the pity!
And then take a few minutes to blame yourself, then drop the blame! Or whatever is stopping you from accepting ownership.
Give yourself five minutes to feel it - unabashedly. Don’t hold yourself back - go for it! Feel all the pity or judgment or whatever is there. Maybe even set a timer. And when the time is up, then drop it.
Look, if you don’t own what’s going on, then it’s not likely to change. And you can’t own it when you’re attempting to pick it up with gloves of blame or pity or another limiter.
Anyway, that’s the first step. It’s all downhill if you just make it past all this

Sometimes it’s not easy to figure out what emotional healing is and how to do it. The problem is, we so often suffer from emotional pain, and we can end up believing it’s due to those so-called ‘bad’ emotions. And if we could just stop feeling those bad emotions, then we’d feel better.
But this is the complete opposite of emotional healing. It’s actually what causes emotional pain in the first place. That’s because emotional pain comes from shutting off the flow of emotion.
It’s important to understand you only have one pathway for all your emotions to flow through. As you attempt to block out the anger or the hurt or the fear, then you’ve just blocked the flow of all your feelings. Which means you just shut the flow of what you want to feel - like joy and happiness and love and wonder.
It’s like a water pipe. You’ve got the hot water in the same pipe as the cold water. Let’s say you don’t want to feel the hot water. You’re afraid of getting scorched. So you begin to turn off the flow. But the hot and cold water both flow in the same pipe. Therefore when you shut down the hot water, you’re also blocking the cold water.
That’s problem number one.
Next, your heart wants to feel, but when you don’t let it, that creates the second problem. The job of your heart is to feel all your feelings. By restricting those feelings from entering into your heart, that will create pain.
Why? Because when you long for something you’re separate from, it creates pain. In this case, the pain comes from the separation of your feelings from your heart. That in itself creates pain.
The third problem concerns what happens to those unfelt feelings. They don’t just fly off into outer space. They don’t just dissolve into nothingness. No. They stick around. They end up surrounding you and causing a lot of irritation and aggravation.
The fourth problem comes from the fact that when you start blocking the flow of feeling, you create a wall that surrounds your heart. When you close off your heart, what actually happens is that you must use your own feelings and thoughts. Just like when you cut yourself. It’s the blood itself that forms the clot, to stop the flow of blood.
Only in this case, that clot, or wall, or barrier becomes the actual source of pain. It forms a little pain factory. Most of the emotional pain you feel is actually from this barrier. Because it’s made up of the thoughts and feelings you didn’t want to feel!
The misunderstanding of emotional healing comes from these four reasons. We think we need to restrict the flow of emotion even more to heal ourselves, but that’s the actual reason the problem exists at all. The answer lies with going in the exact opposite direction.
Let your heart open even more! Feel anything and everything that comes up. That’s where healing comes from. Or that’s the overview, at least. There’s many other techniques and secrets you can use to help yourself. For example, much of what you feel isn’t real emotion. Rather, it’s a fabrication of artificial feelings and mental constructs.
Pain is created from these imaginary feelings. Emotional healing - true emotional healing - involves ending these imaginary feelings so you can feel what’s real. That’s how you end emotional pain. That’s how you can start feeling what you want to feel.
