If you are considering buying a food dehydrator to prepare your dehydrated food for your emergency storage or other needs, there is some information you should know before buying one. It is not really that hard to figure out what food dehydrator you need. All it has to do is to maintain a constant air flow and temperature. Most dehydrators are provided with a thermostat that supports the desired temperature as well as the fan for the fresh air to circulate. Any dehydrators that are not equipped with thermostat or fan are not worth your money and attention. That is why when you are looking for a dehydrator to purchase, don’t search for one that claims to dry food faster. Pay attention to other important factors that are important for the dehydrator purchase. The four main factors that are important for the food dehydrator purchase are the heat and air flow, access, versatility and the quality of materials.
Even heat and air flow is the most important thing to consider when purchasing a food dehydrator. You don’t want one part of the food portion get drier than the other part. If the air flow and temperature in the dehydrator is uneven it can cause the food that is closer to the heat and air get much drier and faster than the food that is far away. As for the shelf food dehydrators their heat and air flow is quite even because of their design. As for the most stackable food dehydrators, their air flow and heating is uneven, especially in the cheaper models. But there are some new and quality stackable food dehydrators that provide good and even air and heat distribution.
The next important factor to consider, when purchasing food dehydrator, is the easy access to the trays. You need the access to the dehydrator trays when you get the food ready for dehydration, when you control on the drying process and when you need to remove your dehydrated food. The shelf dehydrator has no problems with access to the trays. You can pull out each tray individually. As for the stackable food dehydrators there is a trouble with access to some trays because if you want to reach the tray which is in the middle you will have to lift all the trays above. It can be quite difficult to handle and take a lot of time because some stackable dehydrators have up to 20 trays.
As for the versatility, shelf and stackable food dehydrators have different advantages. For example, shelf dehydrator has an advantage of clearing the space between the trays if you wish to dehydrate large things. But the stackable dehydrators have the ability to expand. You can always buy more trays to increase the capacity of your stackable food dehydrator.
And, of course, when investing in your food dehydrator you want it to last longer. So, choose only the food dehydrators that are made of the quality and approved materials.
