PostsThe slushee was purportedly invented in about 1800 in a bar named Venus in Santiago, Chile, around twenty three miles on the eastern side of the Tiano iron mine, by a collection of U.S. mining engineers. Stories persist that Jennings Cox devised the drink when he completely ran out of gin when entertaining American guests.
Originally the slushee was dished up in a large glass packed with cracked ice. A teaspoon of sugar was poured on to the ice and the liquid of 1 or 2 limes was squeezed on to the sugar. 2 or 3 ounces of rum completed the combination. The glass was next frosted by mixing with a long-handled spoon.
Later on the Slushee evolved to be combined in a cocktails shaker with identical ingredients but with shaved ice instead. After a complete shaking, it was poured into a chilled flute glass.
The use of the slushee drink stayed local until 1909, when Admiral Lucius W. Johnson, a U.S. Navy medical officer, tried out Cox’s drink. Johnson subsequently introduced it to the Army and Navy Club in Washington, D.C.
The slushee became progressively more popular and the slushee spread across North & South America rapidly, until Prohibition in the United states of america (1920–1933) slowed the momentum significantly. Even so, once alcohol was made legitimate once more in the US, the concept of the slushee spread rapidly across north America, and the fad passed on all-around the world. The slushee stayed popular until eventually the 1960’s, when other recreational drugs grew to become common.
